The Los Angeles Mandatory Soft Story Retrofit Program was enacted to reduce the risk of injury or death from earthquakes. The retrofit program has been set up to provide cost-effective solutions for the retrofit of soft story buildings. Retrofitting 360 is a construction company that provides engineering and construction services for owners of soft story buildings. We pride ourselves on providing safe, cost-effective solutions to this mandatory program.
Retrofitting 360 recently completed a soft story retrofit project for our client at their building located at 1020 North Curson Avenue, West Hollywood, CA 90046. This building is a wood framed apartment building with tuck-under parking. The retrofit consisted of foundation, roof and wall anchors, braced or moment-resisting steel frames, and cantilevered steel columns. The purpose of the retrofit was to comply with the soft story ordinance, reduce liability for injury or death resulting from earthquakes, income protection, and protection against earthquakes. The retrofit also reduced the risk of damage to the building and its contents in an earthquake.
Retrofitting 360’s project manager was able to successfully reduce this risk by installing a foundation that is stronger and more stable than the original foundation, installing roof and wall anchors that will provide stability during an earthquake, and installing braced or moment-resisting steel frames that will keep the building from collapsing during an earthquake. Retrofitting 360’s project manager also installed cantilevered steel columns which are very strong and will not fail in an earthquake.
We pride ourselves on providing safe, cost-effective solutions to this mandatory program. For more information about our services please visit our website at http://www.retrofitting360.com/
